Knitting a Hug

I think one of the reasons I've been so silent of late is that my Mother-in-law-in-law was diagnosed with an uncommon and lethal form of leukemia. It is quite far advanced, so they are not going to try to treat her. A month and a half ago, they gave her around four months to live.

She is one of those people who is so good and kind that it shines out of her with a gentle, glowing light.

I don't want her to go. More than anything right now, I would like to put my arms around her and tell her how well loved she is. She does not want visitors, though, and has asked that people, please, not come. So I've spent the last two weeks knitting her a hug. I think she will understand what I'm trying to say.

In her honor, the pattern for "Ember's Embrace" is downloadable here. It was designed with love and I hope it will be knit again, with love.

(Thanks to KC for modeling.)

It's absolutely beautiful. As is your love for your mother-in-law. I'm so sorry that she's so ill and for all the pain that goes with it.

Please don't feel bad about your mother-in-law not wanting company, I believe it is a cancer thing cause my hubby died of bone cancer 24 years ago and he was the same way, no company, I cared for him at home, and if someone came by to visit, he told me to tell them he was sleeping or not up to visitors.

I Love this pattern! And as a rare leukemia patient myself, I think that your "hug" is an awesome gift. Please let her know that she is in my prayers and good thoughts. I know it is a hard road as a patient, but I think it is even harder on our loved ones. God Bless!

This is on my short list of gifts I'd like to knit for my mother-in-law. Right now, she's doing well, but elderly.

I'm so sad that you have someone in your life who is so wonderful and you'll be losing her.

I've been looking (with dial-up no less -lol) for a shawl/wrap to knit and I'm glad I looked long enough to find this one.

Thank you for sharing and God bless you and your MIL.

Thank you for the sharing your beautiful pattern. I was touched by your reason for designing & making The Hug. I am going to make one for my beautiful sister as a (belated) 50th birthday gift. Blessings! The name "Ember's Embrace" is lovely.
